Abstract

This paper is the result of a literature review analysis on water resource conflicts both in Brazil and worldwide. The focus of this analysis is based on conflicts derived from inappropriate management or relative scarcity of water resource. It also presents some theoretical foundations
that provide the basis for conflict analysis and an overview of some tools frequently used for its resolution. As a conclusion, there are many types of water resource conflicts both globally and locally. Considering that these conflicts could be intensified all over the world, if analyzed from the geopolitics perspective, one can say that they can generate significant socioeconomic consequences for society as a whole. In this context, these conflicts must be in a global environmental agenda. It also important to focus on the development and implementation of public policies in order to achieve an effective management of these conflicts.
