Data Description | Severe storms which produce hail and damaging winds are responsible for property damage, loss of life and a major contributor to insurance costs. This project will utilise archived radar data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology to construct spatial maps of severe storms in Australia and construct a climatology of their modes of occurrence and diurnal cycle. This work will have applications in climate modelling as it will provide observations with which they can be validated. It will also have applications to the insurance industry to assist with insurance premium costing. |
