Abstract | The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of social, economic, and environmental impacts of renewable energy. Based on available literature, this chapter identifies the impacts of key renewable energy sources including solar, wind, hydro, and biomass in addition to solid waste. The most common impacts were identified for these renewable energy sources include impacts on land use, employment generation, and social aspects of quality life. This chapter considered both negative and positive aspects of the impacts and indicates that the impacts of renewable energy generation from different renewable energy sources very in terms of types and extent. The extent of impacts may differ according to the types of renewable energy sources, size of the energy generation plant, technology for energy generation, and socioeconomic context of a country. |
