Abstract | This article examines firstly consistency as a central sentencing imperative. It then addresses methods adopted in various jurisdictions for the regulation of judicial discretion in sentencing, namely computerised information retrieval systems, sentencing grids, mandatory sentencing and guidelines judgments.
