| Abstract | Alan Ryan’s study of the ADF action in the International Force East Timor is timely in two senses – both in its speedy production [it was released in November 2000] and in its basic messages for anyone contemplating the logistics of an international coalition force. He has profitably worked this study up as an historical study – admittedly a very contemporary one - from revealing interviews with key personnel, both while they were in East Timor and after their return, and from a critical background of key documents [eg UN guidelines for peacekeeping/peace enforcement operations]. All this is further embedded in other wide-ranging studies. |
