Abstract | We consider elastic waves encountered in thermoelasticity and seismology. Passive-dissipative nature of the waves prohibits spontaneous instability and, depending on the adopted model, imposes certain restrictions on the values of physical parameters. We derive such conditions based on two popular models, one with and the other without second sound effects. |
