Abstract | In 2019 China accounted for one-third of all Australian agricultural exports, while Australia was China’s third largest source of agricultural imports. Since 2020, this important agricultural trade relationship has been set back by forces that include trade barriers, economic deflation in China, and Chinese self-reliance policy. Nevertheless, China will feature in almost all scenarios in the future of the Australian agricultural export sector. How should Australian agricultural industries navigate the new Australia-China agricultural landscape? This China Beef Policy Briefing will provide new and in-depth research on market developments, industry policy and trade policy in the Chinese beef sector. Our research aims to inform the strategies of Australian stakeholders including industry bodies and government agencies. |
