Biography

Dr Julie Copley is a Lecturer in Property and Construction Law in the School of Law and Justice, University of Southern Queensland. Her research examines the way in which legal and social (including political and economic) theory can give meaning to law and legislative practice, especially land law and the legislation of Australian States and Territories. Research interests extend to the shared value of human dignity – the equal freedom of all equal people – as found and understood in legislation and jurisprudence. Teaching the School of Law and Justice’s foundational law course and construction law, Julie puts to work her conviction that law, as ‘the cement of society’ and ‘an essential medium of change’, requires, and will always require, good lawyers.

Julie has a PhD in Law from the University of Adelaide and is admitted to legal practice. Her professional experience includes legal research, legislative scrutiny and law reform roles at Queensland's Parliament and Court of Appeal, and a national policy role in the resources sector.
