Biography
Basem Adel Aly (PhD UniSQ) is a Research Fellow at the University of Southern Queensland with the Centre for Agricultural Engineering. Specialising in robotics and sensing technologies, Basem’s work focuses on integrating force sensing with robotic systems to perform precise tasks in natural environments. His doctoral research investigated the use of tactile perception through force sensors on robotic knives to identify patterns in cutting data, understand tissue behaviour, and locate the knife relative to surrounding tissues and interfaces. He is currently working on a project that uses force sensing to follow the interface between tissues in beef cuts and adapt the cutting trajectory in real time. Basem’s broader research aims to advance intelligent, sensor-driven systems that improve precision and decision-making in meat processing and agricultural applications.
