Abstract | This chapter describes the search for a national musical language by Australian symphonists during the 1950 and the subsequent appropriation of Aboriginal motifs and themes in their music. Works by Clive Douglas, John Antill, Lindley Evans, Alfred Hill, Mirrie Hill and James Penberthy are discussed. |
