Abstract

Open Access requires new business innovations by commercial publishers, which will be based more on value-added information services and community services. Adapting to the open future, scholarly monograph publishing needs disruptive innovations to establish new value-adding system. The initiatives like Knowledge Unlatched suggest a possibility that open access might help to improve the sustainability of monograph publishing; however, this transformation might not necessarily save publishers who still depend on traditional models.
