Abstract

The research lays some groundwork for developing value propositions for personal financial planning services. The research utilises qualitative and quantitative research methods in two phases. The first phase involves a review of the current research and commentary on this topic and semi-structured interviews with financial planning clients to develop a series of questions that will be used in a survey in phase two. The survey is administered among personal financial planning advisers and clients across Australia. The interviews and the survey identify the current state of personal financial planning value propositions as well as the key success factors in successful adviser-client relationships throughout the various stages of the relationship. The outcomes of this research will make an important contribution to the academic literature and serve as an aid in the development of strong value propositions for financial planning practices and policy makers.
