Abstract | Do you feel like your life as a teacher has become subject to the pressures of an audit culture? Are you finding yourself more concerned than ever with ‘ticking boxes’, ‘meeting outcomes’, ‘forward planning’, ‘teacher evaluation’, ‘subject-divided time-tables’, ‘report writing’ and ‘an overload of extra programs and events’? And if that’s how you are feeling, how are your students doing in all of this? As one school principal in my research put it: 'Classrooms work under such structured timetables…it only works for some kids and it doesn’t work for all kids all of the time' (see, Finn, 2013). If the systemic priorities are getting you down and you want to rediscover your interest in how children learn and how you can best support them, I am going to suggest you try something radical!! |
