Abstract | This paper studies the feasibility of using home appliances for distributed reactive power support. The potential, framework, and requirement of power electronics are discussed to enhance grid stability and power quality. The required modification in topology and control of appliance power supplies, and additional requirement of communication and control are investigated and analyzed. Simulation study is presented to demonstrate the feasibility, coordination and control of the ac/dc and dc/ac stages for the potential implementation. |
