Abstract

Successful organisations are increasingly becoming those with the 'information advantage'. The increasing recognition of the link between information and success has brought about a new focus on employees who process information. This paper reports an international study of one such group of workers ie secretaries and suggests a number of reasons why, at a time when demand for efficient office support staff is increasing, the supply of this type of employee is decreasing.
