Abstract | Zeeman Doppler Imaging (ZDI) is a technique in which stellar spectra taken in polarised light are analysed to reconstruct surface images of starspots and magnetic fields. ZDI is a European–Australian research collaboration that offers unique insight into stellar magnetic activity, and includes studies of young stars that provide proxies for understanding early solar history. ZDI has been a part of the AAT’s own history for two decades, a successful combination of niche science and instrumentation that is revealing the evolution of activity and dynamos in the Sun and other stars. |
