Abstract | High-speed videos are popular for a number of human movement applications such as sport training, sport performance evaluation, physical impairment evaluation and rehabilitation evaluation after accidents. Generally, the measurements needed are linear and angular elements of the body, limbs and digits and in advanced analyses, 3D textured models of these body elements are required during movement. Nowadays, low-cost digital high-speed video cameras are readily available. The low-cost and high quality optics of these cameras is encouraging their use for many human movement applications. In this paper, current video capture techniques and 3-dimensional photogrammetric image processing methods for high-speed motion measurement are described in detail. The paper also highlights a low-cost technique used to synchronise multiple cameras for high-accuracy dynamic studies. Subsequently, the paper provides the results of two case studies. Research results show that these low-cost high-speed systems can produce accurate 3D measurement at standard deviation of ±0.3 mm and high quality 3D textured models of human the human body during motion. |
