Abstract | Land cover information for the entire land area is needed for research on the global environment or for continental / global land use management and planning. A global 4-minute mesh land cover dataset was created for this need. The data used are NDVI data of the global 8km 10-day composite AVHRR for one year in 1990. Classification was basically performed using seasonal variation information of vegetation by NDVI. This data set was created by the following procedure. (1) Setting of land cover classification items with a hierarchical structure. (2) Collection of grand truth data and creation of a database of its 4-minute mesh. (3) Classification by combining three types of land cover information. The three types are the ground truth data itself, the extended ground truth data, and the results of the condition tree method. |
