Abstract | This chapter looks at Foucault interpretation of place. This chapter makes use of Foucault's arguments in his lectures on 'psychiatric power' and follows the antipsychiatry tradition to act as an 'antipower' to disciplinary society. This objective is important because disciplinary power can disrupt and mislead and individual away from discovering their authentic place in the world. This chapter also discusses the Panopticon, family and work in relation to disciplinary power and place. Therefore, this chapter presents an important discussion in relation to place as it highlights those forces that can prevent us from feeling ' at home in the world'. |
