Abstract | This paper centers on conversations with four refugee-background youth about how they make sense of the current global refugee-crisis. These conversations were part of my doctoral research about the forced migration and educational experiences of refugee-background students in Australia. My main aim here is to contribute to a body of work that pushes for shifts in notions around who the knowers are in research, more specifically in this case, who the knowers are within refugee crisis discourses. The key knowers in this paper are the group of young people who contributed with their perspectives and reflections about the crisis. The approach I propose is inspired by decolonial/feminist methodologies and concentrates on the role of people as knowers in their own lives. Here I see knowledge creation as deeply relational, contextual and embodied processes that absorb and create information to make sense of the world(s) we inhabit. |
