Abstract | Following the large number of corporate collapses around the world, Bangladesh enacted corporate regulatory reform in 2006. However, there is a concern whether this reform may really bring any accountability to the listed firms in the country. In order to examine this issue, the current study examines two clusters of data within the prior and post regulatory reform. The results of this study show mixed trends. The average firm performance is found to be decreased during the post reform period under ROA, while it is found to be increased during the same period under Tobin's Q. In other words, there is a significant difference in firm performance between pre and post regulatory reform under Tobin's Q. The influence of firm experience in adapting regulatory reform exhibits significant difference between pre and post regulatory reform. Thus, the firms need to enforce an adjusted socially oriented market announcement to improve all related stakeholders' confidence to extend firm's performance in a developing country like Bangladesh. |
