Abstract

The Zone, an online place to support students as they transition to University. Increasing numbers of students are studying online as they balance work, study and life commitments. All students need support through their studies, but how do we achieve academic advising in an online setting? All educational institutions are being challenged by the ever-changing needs and diversity of students, 'OCED, 2019'. There are a plethora of factors that impact students commencing tertiary education and their successful progression. This presentation will overview how the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) has integrated online Academic Advising. The new initiative has adapted Lizzio's Five Senses 'Lizzio, 2006' to a USQ approach of six Senses of Success. The Zone, sits on the StudyDesk, a learning platform and facilitates the students' development of the Senses of Success.
