Abstract

In research it is imperative that the researcher considers the ethics of experimenting with human participants. Ethical approval considers the process of identifying the risks and benefits as well as the consent requirements for the participant to be involved in the research (Government, 2007). The preamble of the Australian National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (National Statement) considers ethical conduct as more than doing the right thing and involves “acting in the right spirit, out of an abiding respect and concern for one’s fellow creatures” (National Health and Medical Research Council, Australia Research Council & Vice-Chancellor’s Committee, 2007).
