Abstract | Australia has a new Curriculum and in 2013 the Australian Curriculum: History is scheduled for implementation. Implementation of the new Curriculum for History, may mean additional pressure for teachers implementing historical inquiry as a framework for learning from the prep year to Year 10( or P-10) classrooms. Historical inquiry requires teachers to be well versed in inquiry pedagogical frameworks which may or may not form part of their previous personal pedagogy. As part of this introduction to inquiry, practical examples of the use of Socratic Pedagogy and Lipman's Community of Inquiry will be utilised. This session seeks to provide a snapshot of historical inquiry as it can be incorporated into the personal pedagogy of pre-service teachers and a reflection on the transformative effect this pedagogy can have upon the learning of primary and secondary students of history. |
