Abstract

Childhood and motherhood are shared human experiences that have been a source of great interest to many feminists and women’s liberationists. However, historians are only beginning to explore the significance of their theoretical and practical insights into children’s rights. Isobelle Barrett Meyering’s first monograph, Feminism and the Making of a Child Rights Revolution: 1969–1979, represents a rich contribution to this line of historical inquiry. Wide in its remit, this book explores the emergence of children’s liberation in the context of feminism and women’s liberation as well as broader social, cultural and political shifts surrounding childhood and parenthood.
