Biography

Dr Marthy Watson is a lecturer in Curriculum and Pedagogy in the School of Education. She has been an arts educator for over 25 years and her career has spanned across diverse geographical contexts, including South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Her main research interest is focused on reflective practice through arts-based learning, arts integration, and learner engagement. Marthy's recent research focuses on collaborating with primary school teachers in rural and remote Queensland to support them in integrating the arts across the school curriculum. This research is particularly driven by her commitment to enhancing student engagement through the power of the arts and investigating the profound impact of arts-based practices on fostering active learning. Marthy has also worked on numerous research projects supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities through arts practices. She strongly advocates for the arts and regularly shares her insights with various communities, presents at conferences and conducts arts workshops. Follow her on X @Marthy_Watson
