Biography

Dr Marthy Watson is a lecturer in Curriculum and Pedagogy and Director of Teacher Education (ITE) in the School of Education at the University of Southern Queensland. She has been an arts educator for over 25 years and taught the arts in secondary and primary schools in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Her main research interest focused on reflective practice through arts-based learning, arts integration and learner engagement. Marthy's recent research focuses on collaborating with primary school teachers in rural and remote Queensland to support them in integrating the arts across the school curriculum. She is particularly committed to researching student engagement through the arts and how arts-based practices impact active learning. Marthy has also worked on numerous research projects supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities through arts practices. She strongly advocates for the arts and regularly presents at conferences and conducts arts workshops in communities and schools. Follow her on Twitter @Marthy_Watson
