Biography

Dr Lyn Daff is a senior lecturer in accounting at the University of Southern Queensland. Her academic career has spanned more than two decades and includes appointments at Monash University and Avondale University. Her research interests centre on the professional accountant: the competencies and qualities they need and their work environment. Lyn was chosen as the AFAANZ doctoral student to attend the European Accounting Doctoral Symposium in France in 2013. Lyn’s doctoral thesis focused on accountants’ communication in the not-for-profit sector and her thesis won the University of South Australia’s Business School Best Thesis Award in 2014. Lyn has led two AFAANZ grants. She is an experienced qualitative researcher. Lyn’s interest in enhancing accounting students’ employability has included research in fostering communication skills and employers’ perceptions of the ICT skills required of accounting graduates. Her recent interest in accounting students’ reflective practice skills prompted the paper she will present at the 2023 AFAANZ conference. It also led to her receiving the University of Southern Queensland Excellence Award for Teaching in the School of Business in 2022. Her work appears in the British Accounting Review, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting Education: An International Journal, Issues in Accounting Education, Accounting History and Financial Accountability and Management. She is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal.
