| Abstract | The role of the registered nurse in rural Australia is complex and requires expertise in a wide range of sophisticated health care activities. The majority of these nurses provide nursing care in the absence of on-site medical and allied health support staff. Rural nurses are central to the delivery of health care in rural areas but the centrality of their role is largely invisible. |
