Abstract

mHealth refers to the use of mobile technologies in the provision of healthcare. These mobile technologies typically refer to mobile/ cellular phones or the programmable Smartphone. However, a broader conceptualisation of mobile technologies may also include other portable devices such as tablet computers. Within clinical psychology, mHealth refers to any mental health, wellbeing or psychological intervention that is supported or delivered by the use of mobile technology. Furthermore, the purpose of the technology should be to either enhance existing treatment or increase the availability of treatment options. Mobile technologies are increasingly being used in both psychological research and clinical practice, largely due to the high uptake and ongoing integration of mobile technologies in both developed and developing societies. mHealth interventions can be used as an adjunct to face-to-face psychological treatment or as standalone programs.
