Abstract | This study tests the cross-cultural validity of the Integrated Cognitive Model of Depression proposed by Kwon and Oei (1994). One hundred and fifty-one Singaporean undergraduates completed the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale, the Automatic Thoughts questionnaire, the Beck Depression Inventory and the Life Experiences Survey. Structural equation analyses were performed on the Singaporean data to test for the best fitting and most parsimonious models. These models from the Singaporean data were then compared with the Australian data. The results indicate that the Integrated Cognitive Model, not the Symptom Model, is the best fitting and the most parsimonious model for the Singaporean data. This supports the cross-cultural generalisation of the Integrated Cognitive Model of Depression. |
