Abstract | On behalf of the organising committee, we welcome you to the 2025 Resource Operators’ Conference, this year the conference is hosted at the University of South Queensland’s Springfield campus and marks an important chapter in bringing the conference to Queensland where mining is playing and has played an important role in the economic wellbeing of the state from both industry’s development in coal and non-coal activities. Brisbane is the home of various research organisations that is providing significant services to the industry for the betterment of mine safety and productivity. The mining industry in Australia and beyond has progressed dramatically over the years from being a labour based industry to the present day of high automation. This trend has been influenced by the quality of education that the industry has relied upon over the past several decades. The current decline in mining and geoscience education, in Australia in general and in Queensland in particular, has necessitated collective endeavours to retain a viable source of education systems before it is too late to act. A solution is needed to address the resource education shortage if Australia is to maintain a reliable and healthy source of mineral resource suppliers in the long run. The world needs a thriving resource industry when the need for critical minerals is in such demand and Australia is in a commanding position, hence the attention must be placed on the education sector The government alone, at state or federal level, cannot provide all the answers and the onus should fall on the shoulders of the mining companies to address the current skill shortage at the higher ends of engineering and the geosciences for a technologically hungry world. The conference is playing its role in hosting a gathering of such companies, coming to Brisbane so that it is closer to the mining industry fraternity. We are determined to make industry understand that the Resource Operators Conference is for the benefit of the industry and any other organisation that is involved with it. Since going on-line in 2010, the conference papers have been placed, free, onto the net. Currently there are more than 1000 papers from the proceedings, with more than 1.2 million visitor downloads from more than 130 countries. This level of interest would not have been achieved if not for the dedicated authors’ contribution to the conference. All papers in this conference are independently reviews and edited. We would like to acknowledge the sponsor’s support and their role in making this conference move forward every year in spite of the continuing challenges that we are increasingly face. Their support goes beyond the financial aspect and extends to their active participation in paper presentation and booth displays which is making the conference environment warm with welcoming product displays, debates and discussion. With all of your supports we hope to host the conference at various venues. We would also wish to thank, the UniSQ colleagues Ali Mirzaghorbanali, Hadi Nourizadeh and Kevin McDougall for their support in hosting this conference in Brisbane, to the conference advisory board and the editorial board that ensures that the papers are presented in a correct style, grammatically as wells editorially. Thank you also to; Nahid Babaei and Adel Mottahedi for compiling the proceedings, to Dr. Dalin Cai for maintaining the conference website live and to you the paper authors and participants that maintain the continuity of the conference on an annual basis, ensuring papers and presentations of the highest quality, enhancing collaboratively Wollongong and Springfield. The fact that this conference is held in another state, demonstrates the true spirit of the collaboration and togetherness for better education and research and making this conference truly focused on Australian mining. |
