Biography

Jane Palmer's doctorate at the Institute for Sustainable Futures (UTS) was based on an ethnographic study of older people in Aceh, Indonesia and their experienced of chronic trauma over decades of conflict and natural disaster. Major projects since include a study of ‘green’ renters in regional New South Wales (with the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies at the University of Newcastle), and leading a UniSQ research team to support the development of an Indigenous cultural tourism trail by the Surat Aboriginal Corporation. She is currently an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Southern Queensland and an Adjunct Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney.

Jane also has honours degrees in philosophy and architecture and practised as an architect for 10 years primarily in the area of Australian indigenous housing, in the Northern Territory and far north Queensland. Prior to studying architecture, she was a senior manager with the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission.

Jane is a member of the Editorial Panel of the journal Qualitative Research, and has published in the areas of ethics, post-human studies, futures studies, Asian studies, Indigenous studies, ethnographic methods and environmental studies.
