Abstract | This paper reflects on the changes in the curriculum and teaching/learning strategies in the Department of Civil Engineering and Building (CB) in the last decade. It also explores some of the future challenges that await the department and lecturers. The main changes observed are the increased use of emerging technologies in teaching, the introduction of academic quality in education, the changing roles of the lecturers and the different attitude of today’s students towards learning. As a result of these changes, CB now faces the challenge of staying relevant in terms of the curriculum and the teaching methods adopted. We will need to respond to this new breed of students, their prospective employers and the industry as a whole. |
