Abstract

Utilising theories of transnationalism and cosmopolitanism together with the findings of a mixed-method survey of Eurovision fans, this chapter interrogates the Australian experience of the Eurovision Song Contest as a transcultural text enjoyed within a society transformed by both migration and globalisation. It interrogates dominant Eurocentric narratives about the place in Eurovision in Australia to explore the song contest’s possibilities as a transnational social space that can be inclusive of all Australians, while also fulfilling an historical desire for global belonging.
