AbstractWheat and barley are important cereal crops and are quite susceptible to infection of Anguina tritici, Heterodera, Meloidogyne, and Pratylenchus spp.. The occurrence of these nematodes is quite prevalent in major wheat and barley-growing countries all over the world. Seed-gall nematode, A. tritici, is a seed-borne nematode, has a narrow host range, and causes ear cockle disease in wheat, barley, and oats, whereas Heterodera, Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus spp. attack roots and have a wide host range. The seed-gall nematode also transmits Rathayibacter tritici and Dilophospora alopecuri causing yellow ear rot and ear twist diseases, respectively. The present chapter describes various important aspects of infestation with these nematodes in wheat and barley along with their sustainable management methods.
