Abstract | [Background]: We saw an 8-fold increase in the number of paddocks tested for root-lesion nematodes in the northern region, in response to last year’s Updates. The results from these tests match our previous experience from a survey of nearly 800 fields in the northern region – 67% have Pratylenchus thornei and 32% have P. neglectus. Last year our focus was on tolerant wheat. For Pratylenchus thornei, a moderately tolerant wheat variety (such as EGA Gregory) could return another 1.9t/ha compared to an intolerant wheat variety such as Petrie (or extra $450/ha with wheat valued at $239/t). This year we’ll present new information on the role of winter crops grown in rotation with wheat and details about the potential role of more resistant wheat in management of root-lesion nematodes. |
