Abstract

This active workshop will have attendees playing and devising “games within games”, which aim to change students’, players’, teachers and coaches’ paradigms of success by explicitly and overtly recognising and rewarding participants’ performances of various targeted desirable microskills within a larger game environment. A HPE teacher in regional Queensland state schools for thirty years and experienced World Rugby coach educator, the presenter has found conducting these types of activities to have a range of positive outcomes with students and players of various ages and abilities in real-world contexts. The activities and ideas presented are meant to stimulate creative thinking in teachers and coaches, enhance students’ and players’ tactical and technical understandings and build an appreciation of essential, though often unrecognised, contributions on the field/court in a fun and engaging manner.
