Abstract | The Smarter Safer Homes for Older Australians project aims to demonstrate that with assistive technology and remote monitoring of daily living activities of older Australians, not only will older Australians be able to stay in their homes longer, but also remain independent longer and maintain a higher quality of life. The project draws upon the capacity of the National Broadband Network (NBN), the unique research being undertaken at UNE and the research and expertise of project partners and collaborators to develop and test a suite of fibre-enabled services that can be utilised within the home. The study continues to monitor the use of these services and video-calling facilities to explore the capacity for improving and enhancing the quality of life of older Australians, their families and friends. |
