Abstract | The rate of change of gaseous oxygen concentration in a pile of material such as a bioleach pile or a waste rock pile is determined at one or more locations by adding oxygen gas to a region of the pile; and measuring the oxygen concentrations at the locations as they change over time. A spatial distribution of intrinsic oxidation rates may then be calculated, and the results used to control the operation of the pile via, for example, selective aeration. |
