Abstract | This project was an evaluation of the economic aspects of soil constraints amelioration in the cropping systems of northern region. The main aim was to determine if and to what extent treatments are likely to increase farm profit. A secondary aim was to identify information and start to develop frameworks to support decision making on soil amelioration. The primary soil constraints considered were sodicity/dispersion, acidity and compaction, with sodicity/dispersion being the major issue for the region. The evaluated treatments included applications of fertilisers, gypsum, lime, deep ripping, organic matter (manure, compost, biomass) and combinations of these. The treatments and consequent biophysical outcomes are discussed in reports from companion Project B. |
