Abstract | Managing academic workload is increasingly becoming an important topic in the Australian tertiary education sector. While workload pressure has been a concern to academics for more than two decades, the continuing advancement of online and blended learning is further complicating the problem. We argue that traditional workload models are ill suited to deal with the changing nature of tertiary teaching and present a new approach that combines the strengths of existing types of models while neutralising their weaknesses. We also provide a detailed example that implements the new approach, and compare outcomes with those generated by existing models. |
