Abstract | Sustainable routes to energy storage are of paramount importance to establish a decarbonized global economy. Carbon nanomaterials possess unique physicochemical and thermomechanical properties, making them promising candidates for a sustainable clean-energy technology. This chapter summarizes recent developments in carbon nanomaterial synthesis and their use in electrochemical energy storage devices like batteries and supercapacitors. The chapter analyzes the challenges faced in manufacturing scalable and environmentally friendly carbon materials, and their incorporation into energy-storage systems. Possible future directions to overcome the present limitations in storing energy are also discussed. |
