Abstract

The paper considers different representations of numbers and investigates how these representations may influence the way mathematical courses are taught at university level. The
theory of procepts provides a theoretical framework for our consideration. Being analysed as procepts numbers can be seen as a flexible didactical tool. Several examples with focus on
mathematical constants are discussed in detail to show how mathematical knowledge and understanding of the Calculus content can be enhanced within the educational theoretical
framework.
