Abstract | The purpose of the section is to supply teachers and students with a selection of interesting problems. In this issue we invite readers to work on problems that have relationship to chess. All of them can be characterised as mathematical problems on a chessboard. Some problems are well-known and have historical flavour, while others are not so famous and rather forgotten. For some of the problems symmetry is in use. The first problem was considered by Leonhard Euler. All problems are from Wells (1992), though some were known long before his book was published. As usual despite the simple problem statements, finding a direct and certain way towards solution is often far from easy! |
