Abstract

Social work is a contributor to the Australian health care system; practitioners are active across the human lifespan and the health care continuum. Regardless of where social workers practice, health will be of key importance to individuals, their human and environmental relationships and contexts. Improvements to the health of Australians and the global citizenship requires critical insights and knowledge of the determinants of health to ensure interventions are appropriate and socially just. To do this, neoliberalism requires close examination given the capitalist ideology connects political, economic and social institutions to health.
