Biography

Ben began his research career undertaking a MPhil at The University of Queensland (UQ), where his thesis entitled “Increases in corticospinal responsiveness during a sustained submaximal plantar flexion” was awarded a Dean’s Commendation in 2009. Ben continued his research training at UQ, graduating from a PhD in 2015 entitled “A biomechanical analysis of exercise-induced muscle damage in humans” that resulted in first-author publications in journals such as Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise as well as Journal of Applied Physiology. Since joining UniSQ in 2016, Ben has continued to examine the role of muscle and tendon mechanics in exercise-induced muscle damage and strength training through collaborations at a number of Australian and international institutions as well as through supervising several postgraduate students. Ben is also interested in jump landing mechanics and the role of jump landing training in reducing ACL injury risk, particularly in female athletes. In addition to having a passion for teaching in biomechanics and motor control, Ben is also active in providing service to the biomechanics field as a past executive committee member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Biomechanics as well as an advocate of National Biomechanics Day in Australia.
