Biography
Dr Armando Apan is a Professor of Remote Sensing and GIS at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia. His research interests include the application of remote sensing and GIS to observe terrestrial ecosystems and their responses to environmental/climate change; forest vegetation and habitat mapping, biodiversity assessment; land use/cover change analysis; agricultural crop mapping and yield prediction; flood and drought mapping.
He is currently affiliated with the School of Surveying and Built Environment and the Institute for Life Sciences and the Environment at USQ. He was the Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Engineering and Surveying at USQ from 2011-2013. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Professor Apan was the recipient of the “Queensland Spatial Science Excellence Award” in 2006 and was elevated as Fellow of the Australia’s Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute in the same year. He was Finalist to the “2014 Condamine Awards (Research Category)”, awarded by Condamine Alliance, Toowoomba, Queensland. Armando was also the recipient of the "USQ Award for Excellence in Design and Delivery of Teaching Materials" in 2005, the "USQ Award for Excellence in Research (Early Career)" in 2002, and the "Outstanding Alumnus Award (International Service)" from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, College of Forestry and Natural Resources in 2014.
He was the topnotcher (rank 1st out of 1,183) of the 1987 Foresters’ Board Examination, given by the Professional Regulation Commission, Manila.
