| Abstract | This paper explores the convergence of a range of social and official discourses around attempts to situate the CBD and shopping centre in Ipswich, Queensland, as a central hub for both commercial activity and the establishment of local myths of heritage and identity. As such, it offers a model for identifying the myriad ways in which the built environment and discourses of identity intersect in a sometimes contrived fashion to generate a sense of place among a local population. |
