Abstract | Mathematics and statistics are disciplines with their roots in the 'real world'. Even simple methods learnt at school are used in real, current research. Yet perhaps students do not believe that the mathematics they do is of any importance or use. This belief can be challenged by showing students how mathematics is used, and by using real data sets. In addition, there are numerous jobs available for students wishing to venture further into mathematics and particularly statistics. |
