Abstract	This paper reports on one aspect of an investigation undertaken by the authors on the verity of multiple choice questions (MCQs) as a teaching and learning and assessment tool in law courses within a law program: the use of MCQs for formative assessment. The other aspect of the investigation regarding their use for summative assessment is the subject of another paper.
